2025 Civic Journalism Camp for Secondary School Students

We sincerely thank the organizer, Dong Zong, for placing their trust in our college and giving us the opportunity to serve as a co-organizer in promoting this vibrant camp that combines education with media practice! This time, we were honuored to provide the venue and lecturer resources for the “ 2025 Civic Journalism Camp for Secondary School Students” program, accompanying secondary school students from various regions as they stepped into the real world of media.

Over the two-day camp, participants conducted interviews on social issues, learned filming and editing techniques, and wrote news articles. Though the process was filled with challenges, it was also rich with rewards.

In her opening remarks, CEO Ms. Jennifer Tan stated that media work is not just about recording facts—it is a bridge that connects society and conveys the truth. She emphasized the need for quick thinking, rigorous logic, sincerity, and above all, a sense of care and responsibility for social issues.

“I sincerely hope that everything you have learned, reflected on, and felt during these two days becomes part of your own knowledge framework and that you apply it in your future learning and practice. The world of media is vast and full of opportunities for exploration; social issues are diverse and in need of your voices. Always maintain your curiosity about the world, your persistent pursuit of truth, and your unwavering commitment to social responsibility. Whether or not you choose to enter the media industry in the future, we encourage you to embody the spirit of a media professional—care about society, seek the truth, and dare to express yourselves.”

YB Ng Sze Han remarked that “citizen journalism” is not the exclusive domain of media majors; rather, it is a concept that encourages public participation. As long as one has a heart that cares about society, anyone can document stories—be it on social media platforms like Xiaohongshu or Instagram. What matters most is that local stories are seen and heard.

Mr. Low Chee Chong pointed out that for young people aspiring to pursue a career in media, courage is key. Media is an essential force in advancing society. Every issue or group is closely connected to the media and must work alongside it to drive the nation’s progress and development.

Lastly, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Selangor State Executive Councillor YB Ng Sze Han and Dong Zong's Head of Media and Publicity Affairs Committee Mr. Low Chee Chong for serving as the closing guests of the camp and sharing their encouraging words with the participants.
