"Hanxin Lecture Series" in July: Islamic Movements in Malaysia

In Malaysia, Islam is not only a religious belief, but is deeply rooted in all aspects of society, from politics, public policy, judicial system, to culture and community organizations. Driven by the global Islamic revival movement, the Islamic movement has gradually emerged in Malay Muslim society since the 1970s. For non-Muslims living in a multi-ethnic society, understanding Malay society and the Islamic movement is an indispensable part.

In order to let more people have a deeper understanding of the Islamic movement, Oneworld Hanxin College will invite Teo Ann Siang to give a lecture on "Islamic Movements in Malaysia" in the "Hanxin Lecture Series" in July. Teo Ann Siang is currently a doctoral student at the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS) of the National University of Malaysia (UKM). He has served as a researcher and coordinator of MyCARE, a Malaysian Islamic non-governmental organization, and has long been concerned about refugees, Middle East politics, ethnic relations, and domestic and international humanitarian issues.

Course topics include "Introduction to Islamic Organizations and Daily Practices of Muslims" and "Social Movements and Political Influences under Islamic Movements". The course will be held at Oneworld Hanxin College on July 24 and 31, from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Interested person can click here (https://tinyurl.com/HanxinIslamicMovement) to fill in the registration form.

The registration fee is RM40 per person, and the minimum number of participants is 15. Interested persons are welcome to register. If you have any questions, please contact Oneworld Hanxin College WhatsApp 018-9670599 or email to pria@hanxin.edu.my.

Through this course, let us put aside stereotypes, cross the barriers of understanding between religion and culture, and explore the contemporary evolution of Islamism in Malaysia together.
