"Hanxin Lecture Series": AI – Reflections on the Evolution of Humanity and Technology

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has quietly transformed our world. From AlphaGo’s historic victory to the groundbreaking emergence of GPT models, AI is rapidly reshaping the boundaries of society, the economy, and even human cognition. Its rise—from generating text, images, and videos to data analysis and voice recognition—has not only boosted work efficiency but also brought unprecedented convenience. However, like all technologies, AI can be used for both good and ill.

In light of this, Oneworld Hanxin College will be hosting a special edition of the "Hanxin Lecture Series" in June, featuring Professor Chew Thiam Kian from the Department of Software Engineering at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya. Professor Chew holds a PhD in Computing Science from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and has dedicated the past 25 years to advancing education, research, innovation, and interdisciplinary applications in software engineering.

This course approaches the topic of technology from a humanistic perspective, structured around four core themes:
1. How AI Got to Where It Is Today
2. The Symbiotic Relationship Between Data and AI
3. The Distance Between AI and True Intelligence
4. AI, Humanity, and Society

Step by step, it explores the history of AI, its data foundations, the boundaries of its capabilities, and its broader social impact. Through four sessions, participants will embark on a thought-provoking learning journey, uncovering the deeper meanings beneath the surface of technology and reflecting on the past of AI and the future of humanity.

The course will be held on June 4 (Wed), 11 (Wed), 25 (Wed), and July 2 (Wed), from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM at Oneworld Hanxin College. A minimum of 15 participants is required for the course to commence. All those interested are warmly invited to register.

The registration fee is RM80 per person. Interested participants may fill out the registration form via this link: https://tinyurl.com/HanxinAI. For inquiries, please contact us via WhatsApp at 018-9670599 or email pria@hanxin.edu.my.

This is not a sermon on technology—but an invitation to critical reflection. Join us to learn and imagine how we can co-create the future alongside machines that may one day be "smarter" than us.
