“You are My Son” Film Sharing Session

Oneworld Hanxin College had the great honor of welcoming Jimz Lee (李子剑), director of the new film "You are My Son", along with lead actor Koh Teng Huat, to our campus for a heartfelt sharing session with our students. The film, rich in themes of family and longing, left a deep impression on all who attended.

Director Jimz Lee emotionally shared that the inspiration for the film came from a personal regret—being in Singapore for a shoot and missing the final moments with his father. He titled the film "You are My Son" to remind everyone to cherish every opportunity to be with their loved ones, so that there are no regrets.

During the session, the director recounted the journey from pre-production and fundraising to the official start of filming. He revealed that, at one point, he nearly had to mortgage his house to finance the project. Fortunately, financial support from the Sarawak government came just in time, allowing the team to swiftly proceed with the shoot.

He also introduced several actors from China involved in the film, highlighting a young child actor whose natural performance elevated the emotional tone of the entire film.

The main filming location was set in Sibu, with one particular family home serving as a key setting. Sadly, the house had been left vacant for too long and attracted break-ins. As a result, the owner eventually had it demolished, making it impossible for fans to visit and “check in” at the iconic spot—a real pity.

The film was shot over 20 days, though more than half of those days were rainy. An extra day was added to accommodate the weather, bringing the total filming period to 21 days.

Director Jimz Lee expressed: "I hope the audience finds the meaning of home through this film—and rediscovers the beauty of being truly together."

The film tells the moving story of a daughter (played by Yise Loo) and her father (played by Koh Teng Huat), as they journey from misunderstanding to reconciliation, from estrangement to reunion.
